Suspension maker and supplier DSP just dropped their remote Bighorn dropper post in our laps. Over the next few months we are going to be seeing how this post holds up with a full review to follow.
Over the last few years dropper posts have gained huge momentum. Their application extends the possibilities on the bike. Making climbing easier with a raised saddle that lets you properly position your body for maximum traction. Meanwhile descending becomes less inhibited with the saddle in your gut and instead dropped down low, out of the way. Also during that time their have been many short comings. But lately the manufacturers have been making leaps and bounds in improving their products amongst the shaky reliability of these highly sought accessories have had since their introduction. We visited DSP during Interbike where they explained their technology and improvements they feel will put the Bighorn on the top of your list of dropper posts. One such improvement is the post has a two way lock position that locks into place, and we mean LOCKS. Unlike many post on the market where if you pick the bike up by the seat, the post would extend somewhat and worsen over time. Sometimes to its fully extended height. Not a reassuring feeling that your post is going to make it much longer. The Big Horns unique internal mechanism prevents this. It locks into position with a firm hold both up and down, so feel free to pick this bike up by its seat if you wish.
While it is hard to explain from this cutaway shot of the post, we had to include it cause it’s so damn cool.
Colors? Yes DSP is offering a bit of color for you riders that like to have that personal touch!
DSP Bighorn gets its name from its unique clamping system that resembles …. well a BIGHORN.
The DSP Bighorn dropper post comes with a simple effective remote operated lever. Its design is ambidextrous, meaning you can use it on the left or right side. It also has a clam shell hinged mount, so you there is no need to remove grips or shifters in order to install or remove the system from the bike. The Bighorns remote lever has a barrel adjuster to fine tune set up if need be. We are going to be giving the BigHorn a thorough thrashing to put it to the test. It will be one of the many products seen on our Project AM/Enduro bike.
The whole thing weighs 638g including the remote and cable. Which is pretty respectable and on par with other dropper posts on the market.
